Money changes everything
Legal action against Walk the Line may be in the offing, because I'm receiving money for a product without paying for the license it uses. I may later release it without the Serenity tie-in, but for now, the auction is closed, and no pledges will be confirmed. (Or, if I can't get fundable to do that, I will send you your money back)

Thanks a million to everyone who put money in. Many people - including myself - said I was crazy to try this, that only the Greg Stolze's of the industry can pull this off. But it worked, if anything, TOO well. I don't think I'm Greg Stolze, but I think this does prove that the ransom model is NOT dependent completely on a huge celebrity reputation, but rather on simply an established history of quality. I expect we'll see more and more of it in the future.

Till next time,
Steve

Good to hear the Ransom model's working for you. I like the model as a way to avoid the pitfalls of traditional distribution and remunerate artists directly, so I'm glad to see it work. :)

Why did you have to make it "actually" Serenity? Why not file the serial numbers off? Gord knows, it's ultimately just a Traveller setting with serial numbers stamped on...

Cos I wanted to make a Serenity game. Not a space cowboy game, a game about the moral and ethical universe of Malcolm Reynolds.

You can do that without name-checking him.

That's an effective and powerful idea, though your involvement in playtesting another Serenity game surely doesn't put you in the stablest legal position for it. I still wish you luck.

*sigh*

People are silly sometimes. With the auction off you are not infringing so not to worry.

Luv you honey!
